Awards & Reviews for 2007 Liebeler Vineyard Chardonnay

Reviews:

  • Palate Press (July 21, 2010): This single vineyard Chardonnay shows clear effect of the 40% new French oak, but wood complements rather than overwhelms. Pear, apple, honeydew melon and some tart pineapple are joined by caramel, smoke, and a surprising kick of white pepper. This would be a perfect pairing with Flounder Francese with Toasted Almonds, Lemon and Capers. Click here for more information.

  • Wine Enthusiast (December 2009): 86 Points
  • Connoisseur’s Guide (October 2009): There is no shortfall of either weight or substance here, and the presence of plentiful oak and the hints of biscuitty, bread-shop sweetness are to be counted as plusses, but the wine’s limited fruit fights without entire success against the heat and ongoing coarseness. 85 points
  • E-Zine on Wine, Mark Squires (July/August 2009): This bottling (234 cases, $35), as opposed to the Biagini reviewed this issue, is more Burgundian in style. There is a touch of oak up front (it had 50% new), but it is bright and elegant, with a nice, lingering finish and a sometimes serious demeanor.  This lacks the depth of the Biagini, and it is more austere. Overall, it is quite charming, though.  As with the Biagini, it shows some alcohol (14.5) occasionally, but it is not particularly intrusive.  87 Points

2007 Liebeler Vineyard Chardonnay
2007 Liebeler Vineyard Chardonnay  -  $35.00
A lemony yellow with a slight cloudiness and some remnants of the less the wine was aged on. Very tropical fruit aromas: pineapples, Asian pears, apples and banana. The new French oak imparts the classic caramel and vanilla notes with a hint of toast, but the oak is very balanced with the fruit and solid acidity. A rich mouthfeel immediately upon entry, with the toasty oak and more subdued fruit flavors of pear and apple dominating the palate. Hints of butterscotch and vanilla on the finish. Pair with a chicken or fish dish with a creamy, buttery sauce and capers.
